Tournament Fishing
Success From The Back Of The Boat

Unless fishing a tournament where you are fishing against the partner in the front, you most likely will be fishing against other back of the baot anglers. So your object isn't to try to outfish your partner but to outwit the fish. Seven out of ten times a nice limit of bass will put you in the money, and sometimes a good kicker with several other nice fish will do the same.
First and foremost, when fishing from the back of the boat, don't get worried if you're not matching fish for fish the guy in the front.
You can expect to catch as many fish as the angler in the front if the bass are on a reaction type bite, the angler in front will get 75% of all of those type bites and leave you with nothing but "used water".
So your object is to figure out what type of bait will catch the fish that your front of the boat partner misses or leaves behind. Having fished from the back for over 20 years I can comfortably say that there are many styles, tricks, and techniques you can apply to help you catch those fish.
There are always bass that won't strike a reaction type bait just waiting for you to present to them an easy meal. Those are the bass you should be targeting.

After you have the lure running straight, you watche the wobble carefully. If the wobble appears inhibited in anyway he switches to a larger slip ring or he adds a snap between the slip ring and the line. This fisherman knows that lures only achieve their design potential when they run true through the water.

You can be effective from the back of the boat. Be observant and you will be surprised at how many fish you can catch.
